Porsche Complete!

After the last update, I worked hard on finishing the bodywork, making sure it was perfectly polished and waxed. That takes a lot of time to get right but eventually I got it right and was very pleased with the finish. Next up I had to paint the clear parts, the rear lights and indicators and such.

These were painted with clear red and clear orange paints as well as normal red and black paint but the finer details, the black rubbering along the edges of the lights, were done with a permanent brush pen. just running the edge of the pen nib along the edge of the part to bring up a black rubber line. I think it edges these parts perfectly.

Now it was time to put it all together. It went together surprisingly easy, I think I may be getting the hang of this model making malarkey. Anyway, here are the pictures of the finished model.

I really like the paint on this car. Porsche Graphite Grey. It's a dark grey with flecks of silver in it, giving it a proper metallic look. The blue parts such as the interior and wheel rims just pop against the dark bodywork. You may notice there is no Porsche badge on the front. This is because, when I was polishing it, the decal got rubbed off due to it being on a raised part of plastic. I have learnt not to add decals to raised parts until the very end. However, the replacement badge will be on order soon and that should finish the model perfectly. For now all I need to do is mount it in the display case.

I used the same technique I used with my Dad's Landrover, mounting a mirrored acrylic layer onto the base of the display case, drilling some well placed holes into the base and acrylic and using florists wire over the wheels and through the holes to hold the model down. Here is what it looks like in the case.

The camera seems to add some reflection to the case but in the real world, it looks awesome in it's case.

That's my Porsche 922 Turbo '88 complete. Hope you like it as much as I enjoyed building it.
